Conroversy - Is John Hassall Really A Tosser?

After talking to my friend immediately after he met The Libertines' bass player, he described Hassall as nothing more than a egotistic wanker (pardon the french, La Belle...)

I was wondering if this is just my friend's opinion or whether this is cast iron truth people?

Then again i would have loved to have been there to meet him myself and proverbially piss on his bonfire about his mediocre bass playing :D

wow wow wow lewi calm down lol i couldent tell you if he is or is not a tosser but a thought he was a decent bass palyer i mean come on he was in the libertines after all lol

But i do no a true fact if it wasent for jonnhy borrel (razorlight) he would not have been the libertines basist because the libertines need a bass player and they phoned jonnhy up and asked him to goin but he had fucked of with other plans then they phoned john hassal up and asked him

so he wasent first choice :P

Ahhh I remember the rumours. Apparantly Borrell (who is definitely not a nice man) did play with The Libertines very early, in the times where they also employed a Cello player.

This is backed up by Borrell's ode to a former nuclei of people called 'Dalston' and allegedly the Razorlight song 'Don't Go Back To Dalston' is about Pete, which sees Johnny asking him to get off drugs. I will imminently consult the lyrics, which should tell me all I need to know.

And with that fact i invite yet more people to throw their hat in the ring or, even more controversially, a spanner in the works.

I went to see Yeti a few months ago, as soon as the last song was finished John was straight off the stage and into the crowd. He was happy to speak to everyone, sign things and pose for photos, came across as a lovely guy as far as I was concerned.
He's maybe not an amazing bass player but I liked what he did with the Libs and I'm quite into Yeti as well.

That is fair, but it is just that I do not quite grasp the concept of the way fame goes to peoples heads.

Hassall might have been under more pressure in The Libs? I'm not sure.

Maybe more people can elaborate on my suspicion?

Once more, I invite people to talk a good talk...
