The Libertines-should they reform or remain history ????

The rumours are off again for a prospective reuniontour/new recordings later in 2008.

It seems across the forums that 90% responding to these rumours are in favour of a Libertines( or at least a Pete/Carl) reunion...what about you ?

Hmm tough one, tbh I'd prefer them not to reform properly, perhaps a couple of shows together but I wouldn't want the band back for good

Playing live-I'd move heaven & earth to see that, especially in a small venue.
All hot, intimate and close-up.

Yes they are all doing something else now, I can't see how ego's would cope with one wanting a DPT track or BS song...which may well arise when you play together ...hmmm..

LP: Will there ever be a reunion of The Libertines?

CB: Not at the minute. Maybe one day. I haven’t spoken to Pete recently–I went to
that sea shanties gig at the Barbican but he didn’t turn up. I’m sure he’d be up for a
reunion one day, but we’ll have to see.

LP: What do you think of all the attention he attracts?

CB: He’s normally on top of his game and he seems to know what he’s doing –
obviously if it’s bad. It’s not good.

I don't see why they shouldn't play together again. They could do a few reunion gigs, or a short tour, and then call it quits. They could even put out another album. And keep all their own projects going at the same time.

BUT...Peter isn't capable of this sort of focus and concentration, just like he wasn't able to meet the commitments of being in The Libertines.

So in order to save everyone a lot of grief, it is probably best they don't reform and just keep on doing what they are doing.

they are the greatest guitar band this centuary. i would love to see carl and peter get back together, even if it was just one album. Peter looks like he wants a reunion now its al down to carl.

The Libertines are over,it would never be like it was again.
They will live as long as there are people who still listen to their music
(although I'd love to see Pete and Carl together some day *drools*)

Well, I would like to see it. Of course it wouldn't be 'the same' but I don't see why it can't be different and just as good or better. Morrissey's great, but he's never ever been quite as good without Johnny Marr and did Mick Jones and Joe Strummer ever do anything quite as good apart? Best not even to think about Lennon and McCartney....

Some of the greatest songwriting partnerships ever are forged in fire and pain - if it's possible to bear it, it's so worth it...

One problem, if they ever did do this, is whether any of them would want what would necessarily happen. I think they would be huge and that's part of the problem - do you want to take people who are a bit fragile by nature, who quite get off on playing a dodgy guitar in a tent of 50 people, and hit them with the great big hammer of massive fame?

It just irritates me to see all these rotten sub-Libs bands foisting their rank product on us all, fashion designers sending incredibly expensive copies of their style down catwalks and everyone in some small way being influenced by them (wearing flares and a baseball cap? Thought not.) when they are like a latter-day Stooges, whom everybody steals from and yet get very little credit for it all.

I also think that a load of crusty, grumpy farts will come over all 'oh it's definitely not as good as the show at the Pig's Knob in 2001. Yes, I was the only person in the audience. Oh no it's all awful now.' That will probably also happen if even one original member is missing (errrrr John Hassall?). If, say, good ol' Drew took over, that wouldn't be good enough for the miserabilists 'oh no, it's awful, I'm off to see (insert name of latest flavour of the month Nathan Barley-esque shower of tossers.)'

I personally volunteer to go and sit on every one of them until they stop moaning if it ever happens.

Dunno about The Libs 'style' being appropriated by high fashion....Pete and Carl drew a lot from punk style (artwork/interior design of anywhere Pete's lived) and from The Beatles (Hamburg Leathers and Sgt. Pepper Jackets) after high fashion had their way with those styles.

Dunno if the reunited Libs would be huge world wide - Britain and Europe, sure, but elsewhere I'm not to sure. If the boys stopped taking drugs and drinking perhaps they'd have the stamina other performers have to embrace a wide popularity. But I still don't know if Lbertine Mania would happen for two guys in their thirties who are pushing 50. But who knows, eh? The world's a freaky place.

I just want Peter and Carl to write new music together, don't care if they call themselves The Libertines or The Assholes. They're the perfect partner for each other. No way they're gonna find someone else.
